AT A GLANCE

CHALLENGE:

  • Cities are facing growing traffic congestion due to population increases and road construction. This leads to longer commutes, and frustration for drivers.

SOLUTION:

  • To enhance user navigation and efficiency, the app will integrate more accurate, real-time traffic updates and personalized traffic insights.

To optimize urban traffic flow through smart technology, reducing travel time and enhancing the daily commuting experience for everyone.

Product Vision Statement

To optimize urban traffic flow through smart technology, reducing travel time and enhancing the daily commuting experience for everyone.

Problem Statement

Cities are facing growing traffic congestion due to population increases and road construction. This leads to longer commutes, and frustration for drivers.

Discovery

Due to time constraints, I chose Google Forms for our user surveys. I determined to dive deep into the minds of our users, uncovering their challenges and preferences when it came to traffic. This method allowed me to gather essential insights efficiently, ensuring I could truly understand their needs and concerns in a limited timeframe.

Core Theme & Insights

Theme: Traffic Congestions

Insights: There is an opportunity to offer more precise real-time traffic updates, personalized traffic insights, and suggest alternative routes to help users navigate more efficiently.

Customer Research

  • Interviewed 5 Participants

  • Based in Calgary

  • Commutes daily to work with a vehicle

Research Hypotheses: I believe daily commuters struggle and feel frustrated when traffic congestion causes longer commutes. I will know this to be true when 3 out of 5 interview participants mention struggle or frustration due to traffic congestion causing longer commutes.

Personas

To better understand the participants’ experiences, I created personas based on key research insights. These personas highlight users' pain points and needs, offering valuable perspective for our design process.

User Stories

As a [Role], I want [goal/desire], so that [Benefit].

  • As a commuter, I want to enter the address on the app, so that I can see how long it will take me to my destination.

  • As a daily commuter, I want to receive real-time traffic updates and alternate route suggestions, so that I can avoid delays and arrive at my destination on time.

  • As a commuter, I want to see my current location on the map, so that I can understand my proximity to the area.

  • As a driver, I want to be alerted to road construction zones in advance, so that I can plan alternate routes and avoid unnecessary delays.

  • As a commuter, I want the app to suggest the most efficient route based on real-time traffic data, so that I can reduce my commute time and minimize stress.

  • As a commuter, I want to be notified immediately when there is an accident on my route, so that I can reroute and avoid being stuck in traffic for an extended period of time.

  • As a busy professional, I want the app to integrate with my calendar and notify me when I need to leave for an appointment based on live traffic, so that I can avoid being late.

  • As a commuter, I want to be informed of the best times to travel to avoid peak traffic hours, so that I can plan my trips for maximum efficiency.

MVP

What solution do you propose (P)?

Propose a real time, personalized traffic navigation app that provides up to date traffic conditions, including congestion, construction zones, and alternate routes. The app will offer dynamic route optimization to help users navigate more efficiently, reducing delays and stress.

Why is that viable for this need (V)?

This solution directly addresses commuters' frustration with unpredictable traffic and construction, offering real time insights and personalized recommendations that help them plan more efficient routes.

How is it minimal (M)?

The minimal version of this solution focuses on core features: real-time traffic updates, construction notifications, and basic alternate route suggestions. It can be built using existing traffic data APIs, minimizing development time while providing immediate value to users.

How will you validate if it is successful? Success will be validated through user feedback and engagement metrics. Key indicators will include the reduction in commute times, user satisfaction rates, and the frequency of app use.
